A student of master course of Disaster and Radiation Medical Sciences participated in the Japan-Russia Student Forum

The 3rd Annual Eastern Economic Forum was held in Vladivostok, Russian Federation on 6-7 September 2017, Mr. Takumi Yamaguchi of master course of Disaster and Radiation Medical Sciences, participated in the Japan-Russia Student Forum, a side event of the Economic Forum. The Student Forum was held based on the proposal of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to President Vladimir Putin, to duplicate the number of exchange students between the two countries.

On 4-5 September, student delegates actively discussed how to develop the relationship of the two countries in the following four fields.

- Cooperation in the field of agriculture - Cooperation in the entrepreneurial activity - Cooperation in the field of medical sciences - Cooperation in the field of education and culture

In the session of cooperation in medical sciences field, student delegates discussed Yamaguchi’s proposal "developing research collaboration based on the experiences of nuclear accidents in the two countries to prepare appropriate responses to future unexpected nuclear disasters". Following the discussion, his proposal was included in the declaration formulated at the forum to Prime Minister Abe and President Putin.

On 6 September, representatives of the students presented the declaration to the Prime Minister. President Putin mentioned the Student Forum at the press conference.

Nagasaki University’s project was adopted as "Inter-University Exchange Project" by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and the collaboration with North-Western State Medical University in Russia was started from this year. It is expected that Nagasaki University will closely cooperate with Russian Federation especially in the field of disaster and radiation exposure medical sciences taking advantage of this forum.
