UHC-Forum side event “NTDs: Driving progress towards UHC” was a success

On December 15, An UHC forum official side event, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs): Driving progress towards UHC was held by Nagasaki University co-hosted by Uniting to Combat NTDs, St. Luke’s International University and DNDi Japan at Tokyo Prince Hotel, Tokyo.

Twelfth of December is designated as the international UHC (Univer sal Health Coverage) Day. Achievement of UHC is one goal of sustainable development (SDGs) promoted strongly by the Japanese government. In accordance with the day, UHC Forum was held on December 13 and 14 in Tokyo, organized by the Government of Japan. The official side event focused on UHC and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) spreading among poverty in developing countries, because NTD control drives progress towards UHC among the poorest of the poor.

The purpose of the “NTDs: Driving progress towards UHC” side event was to launch the 5th report of the London Declaration on NTDs (Part 1), and to launch the Japanese NTD network (Part 2). In the second part of the side event, “Japanese contribution to NTDs and UHC, Prof. Kenji Hirayama has explained the long commitment by Nagasaki University which has been committed and prioritized on issues of tropical diseases. As a closing remark, Prof. Ichimori and Dr. Thoko have thanked the audience, and on the 15th of December, 2017 was marked as the launch of Japan NTD Network.
