October 29, 2024
On October 26, 2024, a commemoration ceremony was held in Taipei for the establishment of the Taiwan chapter of the Nagasaki University Global Alumni Network (NUGAN), an alumni association of Nagasaki University.
The chapter was established by the founder, Prof. Hsu Chao-Tien (a graduate of NU Graduate School of Medicine in 1992), the first dean of the I-Shou University School of Medicine and the current director of the hospital's pathology department, and included a wide range of alumni, including undergraduate and graduate students, exchange students and participants in short-term programs.
The event was attended by guests including members of the Taiwan Chapter of the Alumni Association of Nagasaki University School of Medicine, graduates of the Double Degree Program between the Graduate School of Integrated Science and Technology (Graduate School of Fisheries and Environmental Science), and faculty members of partner universities in Taiwan, and Taiwanese officials. From Nagasaki University, Trustee Ito Masako (Student and International Affairs) and faculty/staff of the School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Economics, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the Organization for Marine Science and Technology and other departments attended the meeting, making for a total of around 50 participants.
Alumni and Nagasaki University faculty and staff exchanged messages about their memories of Nagasaki and their hopes for the future, and congratulatory messages were given by guests of honor, touching on the history of exchanges to date. The establishment of the chapter was celebrated warmly.
We look forward to further growth of the connection among Nagasaki University and our alumni and partners in Taiwan, and the connection between those in Taiwan through their shared experiences in Nagasaki!
