Nagasaki University hosted a researcher from the University of Porto through the European Union's Erasmus+ programme

The European Union has established “Erasmus+,” a programme for promoting bilateral student and staff exchanges between higher education institutions in the EU and their partner universities outside of the region. Through this programme, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (Dentistry) invited Dr. Pedro de Sousa Gomes from the University of Porto, Portugal, with which Nagasaki University has signed agreements on academic cooperation in 2010. Dr. Sousa Gomes stayed for the short period of one week from the 25th to 29th of November.

Exchange events included special lectures for dental students, presentations by undergraduate and postgraduate students on their overseas training and research, as well as discussions with postgraduate students and meetings between school members.

In addition, the Nagasaki Dental Society, which was established by the School of Dentistry in 2022 to improve research and educational capabilities, hosted the "7th Nagasaki Dental Society Research Discussion", and he gave a special lecture entitled "Cracking the egg: the embryonic chick model in bone research".

Furthermore, he visited the University Hospital and was shown Nagasaki's landmarks and historical buildings, including Stadium City, where Nagasaki University's satellite campus opened in October, to facilitate mutual understanding by introducing Nagasaki's history and culture.

Reception

For Nagasaki University, this exchange was very meaningful as it gave the students a great opportunity to receive lectures directly from an overseas researcher.
