Courtesy Visit by the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC)

On January 23, 2025, Dr. Jide Idris, Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and other senior officials from the NCDC visited Nagasaki University, where they met with Trustee Ito and Vice President Jiang to discuss past international cooperation and future collaboration.

The relationship between Nigeria and Nagasaki University is particularly strong in the fields of infectious disease research and medicine. Nagasaki University has accepted long-term trainees from the NCDC through JICA's study abroad program, the “Partnership for Building Resilience against Public Health Emergencies through Advanced Research and Education (PREPARE)”, which aims to develop individuals to work in the fields of infectious disease countermeasures and research.

Prior to the courtesy visit, a discussion was held with the University's faculty members who have accepted long-term trainees from the NCDC and results to date were reaffirmed. Both parties also confirmed that the cooperative relationship will be further strengthened through the JICA technical cooperation project in the future.
