President Kohno attends University Presidents' Forum of Shandong Forum 2021
On Saturday, October 9, 2021, President Kohno participated in the University Presidents' Forum of Shandong Forum 2021, which was held online.
This forum was hosted by Shandong University in China and CHEY Institute of Advanced Studies in Korea to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the founding of Shandong University, inviting presidents of partner universities in the East Asia regions.
Under the theme of "Strengthening Exchange and Cooperation of Universities in East Asia amid the Profound Changes Unseen in a Century”, the presidents of nine universities from China, Korea, Russia and Japan exchanged views.
In his keynote speech entitled "Education and Research for Planetary Health", President Kohno spoke about Nagasaki University's efforts to meet the challenges of planetary health, including human resource development and research in the fields of tropical medicine and infectious diseases. In addition, the Campus-Asia project with Shandong University and Sungkyunkwan University in Korea was also showcased.
In the discussion on universities contributing to the region, President Kohno mentioned the NU’s conclusion of an industry-academia-government partnership agreement and the establishment of a fusion research platform for the development of marine energy, conservation of the marine environment and the promotion of sustainable use of marine living resources. He stated that the university would tackle global issues through cooperation that makes the most of the strengths of the region and the university.
At the end of the forum, it was confirmed that the universities will draw on their strengths and past experience of cooperation to advance their collaboration in the East Asian region for the development of human resources and promotion of research in various specialized fields such as science, technology and culture.
