On Saturday, 23 October, we held a "Mountain Climbing with the University President" event. This project was made possible by an email sent by President Shigeru Kohno to students, faculty, and staff on campus, in which he introduced his own experience of mountain climbing.

Students and faculty from the Graduate School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, including students from Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Zambia, participated. The faculty member who supported this project invited them and gathered at the Sakamoto campus on the event day.

The goal was to reach the top of Mount Kompira, 366m above sea level. Located in the middle of Nagasaki City, Mt. Konpira is a famous mountain with rich nature and is easy to climb even for beginners. There are several routes up the hill, but we chose the path from Motoo Cho via Tenguyama.

They took several 10-minute breaks at rest stops along the way and reached the summit in about an hour and a half. At there, we enjoyed the magnificent view, ate the sweets and fruit we had brought with us, took photos, and had a relaxing time.
Participants said: "It was fun to talk with students, teachers, and other people," "I haven't been out much since the Corona disaster, but this kind of leisure is amusing."
