Presidentfs greeting at the signing ceremony with Hallym University

May 23, 2007

It is my great pleasure to have President Choongsoo Kim, Chairman Dai-Won Yoon and other honored guests from Hallym University with us here today in order to conclude the academic agreement between Nagasaki and Hallym Universities. On behalf of Nagasaki University, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to you all for having traveled over the sea from Seoul to sign this contract.

I understand that Hallym University is currently ranked at the Koreafs most prestigious top 10 universities, holding the flourishing history of a quarter century that based on the Ilsong Education Foundation. Among various achievements of Hallym University, its Medical Center and Ilsong Life Science Research Institute play crucial roles in the health care of the people in Korea, particularly in and around the city of Seoul. Our Medical School at Nagasaki University also plays similarly important roles in health science in Japan, particularly in medical education; the School is going to celebrate the 150th anniversary in the upcoming autumn this year.

In this memorable year, Nagasaki University is truly honored to have established the academic agreement with such a prominent university as Hallym, which holds very strong faculty members and facilities in biomedical education and research.

International cooperation and collaboration are among the key issues for the development of academic activities including research and education at Nagasaki University. I believe that this academic agreement with Hallym University would definitively facilitate and accelerate the further development of the two universities by promoting not only the collaboration in the field of biomedical gerontology, but also other projects in any fields of science and culture in the whole university campus, including exchange programs of students and researchers of the two universities. Thank you very much for your cooperation and understanding.
