Presidentfs Address at the Signing Ceremony
with Central South University
April 18, 2006
It is my great honor to have concluded this academic agreement in the
presence of Dr. Tian Yongquan, Vice President of Central South University, and his fellow professors.
On behalf of Nagasaki University, I would like to express my sincerest appreciation to the people who have devoted themselves to making this agreement possible.
Our exchange activities began in 1984 when Professor Niikawa of our University launched a collaborative study with Professor Xia Jiahui of your University, and ever since we have built a steady and fulfilling relationship for more than 20 years.
I understand that Xiang Ya Hospital of Central South University is the first medical institution to have adopted western medicine in China.
Nagasaki University also started as Japanfs oldest western style hospital called Yozyosho, established in 1861.
I am delighted that this academic agreement has become a reality between our two distinguished Universities which have developed education and research taking pride in being the origin of modern medicine in our respective countries.
Nagasaki University is promoting education and research activities placing gInternational Collaborationh as its important strategy.
I believe that this academic agreement will facilitate our cooperative research even more and will lead to the further advancement of both Universities.
