This symposium was first held at Hokkaido University in 2015 by Hokkaido University, Taipei Medical University, and Kyushu University. Since the fourth symposium, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Tohoku University, and Nagasaki University have joined and it is now held by six universities.
The symposium began with an opening address by Professor Nishida, Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Professor Ito, Trustee in charge of Student and International Affairs, on behalf of the host institution, Nagasaki University.
This was followed by research presentations by a total of 25 researchers and students from the universities, specializing in “Analytical Chemistry/Pharmaceutics”, “Natural Products/Medicinal Chemistry”, “Clinical Pharmacy” and “Biochemistry/Pharmacology”.
A total of 140 participants, 100 in person and 40 online engaged in a lively Q&A session and exchange of views on the research findings, making it a stimulating and excellent symposium that exposed them to the latest research in pharmaceutical sciences and medicine in Taiwan and Japan.
It was also an excellent opportunity to introduce the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nagasaki University to the Taiwanese invitees, who were given a tour of the school’s facilities, including the Medicinal Botanical Garden, Dr. Osamu Shimomura Memorial Honoring Museum, and representative laboratories.
In 2025, the 10th Symposium will be held in Sapporo, hosted by Hokkaido University. We plan to hold this event on a sustained basis to further promote research and cross-cultural exchanges with each university.
