From Nov. 10 to 12, “The 11th International Workshop on the Oceanography and Fisheries Science of the East China Sea” was held at the Bunkyo Campus. This workshop has been held every two years since it started in 1997, by Nagasaki University, University of the Ryukyus, Jeju National University, Shanghai Ocean University, and National Taiwan Ocean University At the 11th workshop, 119 people attended with a total of 89 presentations (46 oral, 43 poster) given on the ocean and fisheries research related to the East China Sea. President Mr. Kohno visited the poster presentation, and was impressed with the energetic discussion and atmosphere in the room.
During the workshop, National Kaohshiang Marine University (Taiwan) has been approved to be a new member university.
It is expected that this opportunity through face to face scientific discussion can contribute to solving the challenges on the East China Sea, even though sensitive issues exist between countries around the East China Sea. The next workshop will be held in Shanghai, 2019 by Shanghai Ocean University.
