A signing ceremony was held for the renewal of the academic exchange agreement between Nagasaki University and Ahmadu Bello University.

On October 9, 2024, Nagasaki University and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), our partner in Nigeria, conducted a signing ceremony to renew our academic exchange agreement.

 ABU is one of Africa’s largest universities. The university was established in 1962 and has since grown to encompass 16 faculties and institutes, with a student body of over 45,000. Following the signing of an agreement in 2019 to facilitate exchanges and collaborative projects, the two universities have continued to strengthen their relationship. The signing ceremony was held with the intention of renewing this agreement.
 At the signing ceremony, Kabiru Balla, Vice-Chancellor of ABU, and Takeshi Nagayasu, President of Nagasaki University, expressed their commitment to continuing the academic exchange. 
 Trustee (Student Affairs and International Affairs) Masako Ito; Professor Kenji Hirayama of the School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health(TMGH); and Assistant Professor Taeko Moriyasu of the Office for Global Relations attended the ceremony. They took the opportunity to provide an overview of their respective institutions and engage in constructive dialogue, which lay the foundation for the development of a stronger relationship between the two universities.
 After the signing ceremony, the delegation visited the School of Engineering and the Faculty of Education and held discussions regarding academic and educational exchange. At the School of Engineering, Dean Daisaku Sakaguchi of the Graduate School of Engineering, Professor Tomohiko Yamaguchi, Professor Tomoaki Itayama explained the curriculum of the School of Engineering and the Graduate School of Engineering along with some information about the field of international fisheries. At the Faculty of Education, Assistant Dean Takahiro Kudo, Professor Kazuo Minematsu and Professor Akiyoshi Suzuki gave a presentation on the teacher training curriculum and the graduate school of education. After, there was a discussion regarding teacher training and improving leadership in both countries.
 On the following day, the group visited the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University and the TMGH to have a comprehensive discussion with relevant personnel regarding their collaborative research on tropical diseases to date and discussed the application for future large-scale research projects.
