Professor Atsushi Hagiwara's edited book "Rotifers:Aquaculture, Ecology, Gerontology, and Ecophysiology" has been published from Springer Nature

New book "Rotifers: Aquaculture, Ecology, Gerontology, and Ecophysiology" edited by Prof. Atsushi Hagiwara, Graduate School of Fisheries and Environmental Sciences, has been published from Springer Nature. This book aims to provide the most recent progress in the rotifer studies in various fields in industry and academia.

Among the 2,300 rotifer species, this book mainly focused on monogonont rotifer Brachionus plicatilis. Despite this unpromising beginning, this species complex is now recognized as a useful animal in industry and academia. In industry, rotifers have been utilized as initial live food for rearing many marine larval fish and crustaceans. Rotifers are also utilized in the wastewater treatment. Likewise, rotifers are used as model organisms in ecology, genetics, gerontology and ecotoxicology.

Prof. Hagiwara said “We invited contributors of this volume from among the world’s top scientists in this research, and also invited several young researchers from Japan. We anticipate that the readers of this book may Abe classified into two types: researchers and students in the area of aquaculture and basic science. Both fields are interlinked, and it is our hope that readers of this book can obtain comprehensive information about how rotifers are being employed in biological investigations.”
