Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Nagasaki University
April 7, 2006
Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, as the President of Nagasaki University, I have great pleasure in joining you on this special occasion to celebrate the new degree of Master of Tropical Medicine in our University.
I would like to give you our warmest welcome.
Nagasaki University was founded in 1857 and will celebrate its 150th anniversary next year.
Our mission has always been the achievement of world-class research and its maintenance. Especially, education and research in infectious diseases is our representative discipline, and I can say we have led the world both in name and in fact.
Today, we have launched the new postgraduate program, the Master of Tropical
Medicine, to boost education and research in our distinguished infectious
diseases study and to further produce outstanding specialists. Our one-year
postgraduate course specializing in Tropical Medicine is the first of its
kind in Japan, and we aim to become the world's leading graduate school
in this field.
You are the very first students of this new course.
We are proud and happy that students have gathered from many parts of the world.
I believe you will establish yourselves as prominent researchers after the completion of your study here and to eradicate tropical infectious diseases from the world.
Nagasaki University assures you its full support, and I wish each one of you all the best in your research and good health during your stay in Nagasaki.
Thank you for your attention.
