Courtesy visits to partner institutions in Kenya

On 10 July, President Kohno visited Kenyatta University (KU) and met Prof. Paul K Wainaina, Vice Chancellor, the heads of research and academic exchange at KU. They discussed the development of future collaboration, including further student exchange and staff training between Nagasaki University and Kenyatta University. The delegates participated in a campus tour led by Dr Mildred Nawiri, the university’s academic exchange officer. They also met and encouraged two students from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences of Nagasaki University, currently studying at Kenyatta University.

On 13 July, a courtesy visit was made to Prof Eng B.W. Ikua, Vice-Chancellor of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), which is conducting student exchange with Nagasaki University under the Inter-University Exchange Project “the Planetary Health Africa-Japan Strategic and Collaborative Education Program (PHASE Program)”. JKUAT has been involved in the AFRICA-ai-JAPAN Project (JICA technical cooperation project) and is currently hosting one student each in the Faculty of Engineering (master’s course) and the Graduate School of Engineering (Doctoral study) through the JICA scholarship program. President Kohno and the meeting attendee discussed the possibility of further cooperation in the future.

The President also paid a visit to Dr. Rose Nyabanda, Acting Director of Kenyatta National Hospital, where the medical students participate in clinical clerkships. The President extended his words of appreciation for the cooperation and support for the acceptance of our students, exchanged views on the training of medical staff and clinical research initiatives, and renewed our enthusiasm for further deepening exchanges in the future.
