Here comes a new paper from NEKKEN Multiplex Project
Professor Satoshi Kaneko group at the Eco-epidemiology department of NEKKEN have been working on a sero-epidemiological surveillance study on the neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Africa. One of the projects that they are getting a big support from JST, Japan Science and Technology Agency, is so called Multiplex Project (2012-2016). Multiplex project is designed to produce a new quick surveillance system that utilize a spearhead technology of the multiplex beads for the detection of more than 10 NTDs active infection at once using a tiny bit of blood fixed on a filter paper. The new paper reported a recombinant protein coated beads clearly showed the active infection with Schistosoma mansoni and or S.haematobium which can be used for better control strategy in many African countries. Prof Kaneko is planning to finish this project until the end of 2016 and to propose his system to be applied to national surveillance system in many countries in Africa.
