* Revitalization of the University with the active participation
  of the student body
(1) Survey on student life of all students
With the basic objective of realizing its educational philosophy of "Student-Customer-ism", Nagasaki University conducted a survey on student life and based on the findings drew up significant measures to provide further support for its students.
Questionnaires were distributed to all students in January, 2004, after changing the existing method of questioning, which used to be conducted on selected students only, so that students' views are effectively incorporated into the reforms of the University.
The outcome was simply calculated and soon presented in "The Ninth Student Life Survey Results". Selected contents were later published with attractive illustrations in the "The Ninth Student Life Survey Report: Student Life Now".
In response to findings of the survey, student views were heard at a "Students-President Discussion (November, 2004)" organized by students themselves during the school festival, and in the following December, the President and many faculty members held the "Nagasaki University Student Life Study Group" to review and discuss the research report.
Furthermore, important support policies that reflect students' voices were revealed after examining the challenges selected by the Student Council for the entire University to tackle.

(2) Dream Grand Prize for the revitalization of the University
Nagasaki University initiated a "Dream Grand Prize for the Revitalization of the University" in 1999 to help realize student suggested University revitalization plans (students' dream) through which to invigorate campus life.
In 2004, "We don't get this, Nagasaki University! University evaluation project by Nagasaki University students" was awarded the grand prize. This group is now collecting survey data to boost reform and evaluate the University from the students' viewpoint, while the University finances their activities to push forward the STEP University Reform in collaboration with students.
Secondary prizes were granted to five other groups. Among those selected was the group that submitted: "Do you know about sexually transmitted disease? For a world without AIDS." This group formed a working circle, "STEP", and still continues its campaign.
Through this University revitalization plan, seven working circles were organized by academic year 2004 including "Blast", which was put together from initiatives of the secondary prize-winning group "Bring a dream to Nagasaki with Yosakoi (dancing to music with bird clappers in both hands, using at least one phrase from a local folk song with), has been participating in various events ever since, and "Peron Circle" which has been nicely integrated into the local community. Other working circles include: The "Nagasaki University Foreign Student Association", which has organized the activities of the international students of Nagasaki University, and the "Nagasaki University Student Information Service", which serves as a base for transmitting information from students' standpoint. All of the above are illustrations of the progress being made by University revitalization through achieving student dreams.
