* Efforts to improve medical care in remote area
    The "Department of Island and Isolated Community Medicine" was opened in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in 2004 with the donated course of Nagasaki municipal government, and one city and five towns or "cho' s" in Goto Island.
    The "Island Medical Research Institute" , set up in the Nagasaki Prefectural Islands Medical Association Goto Central Hospital (Goto City), is anticipated to become a base for the cooperation between Nagasaki prefecture and Nagasaki University.
    The Nagasaki local government created the "Remote Islands/Areas Medical Support Center" to dispatch doctors to clinics and give support to the local health care program. The course is also to help the Center with doctors' training and research. The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences also offers "Remote Island Medical Care TrainingERegional Health Care Training" , and the course assists this from the aspect of medical education research.
    Nagasaki University is committed to the improvement of medical care in rural areas, having the full support of Nagasaki municipal government, affiliated medical institutions, and health organizations. This is to promote regional contribution, which is its mission as a core university in the area.
