* Establishment of intellectual Property Center and Nagasaki TLO
The fundamental mission of the university includes education (dissemination of wisdom) and research (creation of wisdom). However, with the arrival of the knowledge-based society, where the use of knowledge is greatly valued, the university is now under strong demand to systematically make beneficial use of created intelligence and thereby contribute to society.
Social contribution by putting created knowledge, or research outcome, to practical use can be possible in various ways. Presently, however, social contribution through the exploitation of intellectual properties such as inventions is strongly desired.
Specifically, new businesses and industries are created by promoting technology transfer of university inventions based on the industry-academia-government collaboration. This is conducive to national policies of realizing a nation built on science and technology and intellectual property.
In order to fulfill its responsibility for such social action, the University is making efforts to create a better environment for invention by stimulating faculty members' interest in intellectual properties, reinforcing the Intellectual Property Center, the organ in charge of proper management of those inventions, and strengthening the function of Nagasaki TLO, which is responsible for licensing the inventions and managing the technology transfer.
