Hereditary Lethal Arrhythmias

Call for Applications The Nagasaki University Strategy for Fostering Young Scientists (Assistant Professor)

Elucidation of Genetic and Electrophysiological Basis of
Hereditary Lethal Arrhythmias

1. Research Project:

Mutations in cardiac ion channel genes are responsible in part for a spectrum of hereditary lethal arrhythmias including congenital long QT syndrome and Brugada syndrome. These syndromes predispose affected individuals to sudden death. Therefore, defining their pathophysiology and establishing effective strategies for the prophylaxis of sudden death are urgent issues in public health. This project is aimed at elucidating the molecular basis of sudden death in hereditary lethal arrhythmias and ultimately developing new prophylactic approaches that potentially replace the implantable devices. The project goals will be achieved by close collaboration among clinical and research institutes around the world, as well as by exploiting cutting-edge technology such as iPS (induced pluripotent stem) cells.
Refer to this page for details of the research project,
"Elucidation of Genetic and Electrophysiological Basis of
Hereditary Lethal Arrhythmias "
