On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, Prof. Kabiru Bala, Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Federal Republic of Nigeria, and his delegation visited Nagasaki University.
Nagasaki University President Kohno Shigeru, Professor Hirayama Kenji, School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, and Assistant Professor Moriyasu Taeko, Office for Global Relations, attended the meeting.
ABU is one of the largest universities in Africa with 45,000 students, designated as one of the Africa Centers of Excellence (ACEs), a World Bank project, which led to an academic exchange agreement between ABU and NU in 2019 to activate academic exchange.
Although the collaboration has been greatly affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, they expressed their desire to promote academic exchange in a broader range of fields besides Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) research conducted thus far.
