A signing ceremony for the renewal of the MOU between Nagasaki University and Kenya Medical Research Institute is held

On 11 July, the signing ceremony for the renewal of Memorandum of Understanding between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and Nagasaki University (NU) was held in the presence of H.E. Ambassador Okaniwa Ken, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Kenya, Dr. Kunimitsu Ayano, a Member of the House of Representatives, and JICA officials.

The ceremony was attended by President Kohno Shigeru, Prof. Kaneko Osamu, Dean of the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Prof. Kaneko Satoshi, Executive Advisor to the President and Director of the African Education and Research Station, and Director of the Kenya Research Station, Prof. Morita Kouichi, Director of the DEJIMA Infectious Disease Research Alliance and other staff members from NU. Following the opening address by Prof. Elijah Songok, Director General and CEO of KEMRI, President Kohno gave a speech, which was followed by the remarks by the Member of HR Dr. Kunimitsu and H.E. Ambassador Okaniwa.

This is the fourth renewal of the MOU with KEMRI since it was concluded in 2004. In conjunction with the signing ceremony, faculty members and researchers from NU and KEMRI who have been involved in joint research, human resource development and other projects gave presentations on past achievements and prospects, indicating the potential for expanded cooperation.
