JICA Trainees from Bolivia Pay Courtesy Visit to President Takeshi Nagayasu

The JICA Bolivia Country Focused Training for the Promotion of SDGs Implementation and the National Social and Economic Development Plan was conducted from January 22 to January 30, 2024. The program aimed to provide training to members involved in the JICA Grassroots Project (Partner Type) "Project to Improve Chagas Disease Control for Mothers and Children," which is scheduled to begin in February 2024.
Nine trainees were invited to participate in the training, including four members from the Departmental Health Service SEDES Santa Cruz (Chagas Program and Health Information  Unit ), three from the Autonomous University Gabriel Rene Moreno, one Chagas specialist, and one clinical laboratory technician from the city health center. The training focused on the objectives of the grassroots project, which were to "digitize the information management on Chagas disease among pregnant women and newborns" and to "improve the knowledge of pregnant women and health care workers on Chagas disease (education and awareness-raising)."
Regarding digitizing information management, the participants received a lecture on "Ajisai Network” “Sukusuku," a medical information management system unique to Nagasaki Prefecture and visited three clinics and hospitals. Regarding education and awareness-raising, the participants learned about the medical health and welfare system of the Nagasaki Prefectural Government and the Central Prefectural Public Health Center, as well as maternal health guidance at clinics. They also learned about drug discovery research on Chagas disease and a new method of diagnosing newborns using the LAMP method and visited Eiken Chemical's in Nasu, Tochigi.
On the first day of the training, January 22, the participants paid a courtesy visit to President Nagayasu and had a friendly discussion about the project and Nagasaki's geography and climate. Professor Kenji Hirayama (Graduate School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health) also accompanied them.
Through this training, the participants gained knowledge and ideas on team building and how to introduce advanced technology to the project. We believe this training will help them in their work and contribute to the success of the project.
