Nagasaki University and the Korean Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences hold a joint seminar

On December 4, 2018, Nagasaki University (NU, Japan) and the Korean Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences (KIRAMS, Republic of Korea) held their inaugural seminar in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Both KIRAMS and NU are REMPAN collaboration centers and members of the Asian Radiation Dosimetry Group (ARADOS). In 2017, NU and KIRAMS concluded the agreement. The institutions held the joint seminar to share knowledge of radiation emergency medicine and to promote collaborative study.

Ten speakers from KIRAMS and NU delivered a presentation in the field of radiation emergency medicine and basic radiation science. Speakers from Japan's Ministry of Environment and the Institut de Radioprotection et de Surete Nucleaire (IRSN, France) also participated in the seminar. The former delivered presentations about the Fukushima Health Management Survey, while the latter discussed the health risk of occupational exposure to ionizing radiation in the context of the international nuclear workers study.

This joint seminar provided a welcome opportunity to strengthen the relationship between KIRAMS and NU, who anticipate further development of the exchange program as well as collaborative studies in the field of radiation emergency medicine.
