Ms. Aizhan Shakayeva, the second-grade student of the Disaster and Radiation Medical Sciences, won the "Gold Award" of poster presentation in the 14th International Workshop on Ionizing Radiation Monitoring, which was held on 8-9th December, 2018. Her presentation title was "The role of splicing factor SART1 in DNA double-strand break repair by homologous recombination". In this study, Ms. Shakayeva found a physical and functional interaction between a DNA damage repair factor and a pre-mRNA splicing factor. Her finding is very interesting because it suggests the interplay between DNA damage repair and splicing, which have been thought to be independent cellular events. In this workshop, more 200 specialists in the field of monitoring, regulation science and health effects of radiation participated, and 66 posters were presented. The Gold Award was sent to the best poster presentation on the 1st and 2nd day. |
